We're all in a rush to get out the door to start our long weekend. There's a barbecue waiting for you we know, but take an extra minute and just go over that checklist one last time before getting in the car or cab. Some things you can leave behind and not miss, but others you'll kick yourself for forgetting. Don't leave the house without packing these 4 basics: comfy, basic tees (try V-necks for him), shorts (short short for her), fun color shades (most of them are unisex), and SPF! That's all you'll really need. You can pack more, but you probably won't use 99% of the rest.

Over the years, I've picked comfort over sexy for my day-to-day wear. I love pretty little things but no cheap lace or furry pink stuff. Lover definitely caught my attention with the hefty price tags! I had to find out what the obsession was all about with this Aussie brand.

Let me tell you. Lover reaches that free spirited, mischievous (sometimes naughty!) girl in all of us. The attention to detail is worth paying for, and you won't find cotton and blends made this luxurious. With some nip and tuck, I made room in my budget for the New Mexico Bodice Top. I wear it a lot because it goes with pretty much everything—denim short shorts, black pencil skirt, skinny jeans, whatever I'm in the mood for. It's a throw on and go top that encourages you to be spontaneous. Go on...try it!

You see one pair of leggings you've seen them all right? Not so fast. LnA's Zipper Leggings have statement style in candy colors with a sheen finish that opens up new outfit possibilities. You've probably seen them already on Lo Bosworth and Paris Hilton (in silver). What we love most about the LnA Zipper Leggings is that you can really play with the styling and wear them more like pants than your standard leggings. As a little bonus, the Zipper Leggings act like shapewear by giving you just a little lift. Flats obviously work, but for more wow factor, debut your hottest new heels!

We generally wouldn't ever suggest a spread collar shirt to be worn casually, but Rag and Bone is different. Part of Rag and Bone's appeal is that their flawlessly tailored pieces feature cool details that invite a little creativity, allowing you to dress down with some mix and match. The Duke Striped Shirt is no exception. Check out the back panel and cuffs—this isn't your run of the mill dress shirt, so typical dress shirt rules of engagement don't apply. Wear it however you want! Jeans are fine too. The Duke Striped Shirt comes in Beige Stripe and Black Stripe.
When regarding our favorite wardrobe pieces, it all comes down to fabric and fit. Jamison designer Jessica Sturman wisely straddles both essential elements of chic style when creating her collection. Based in New York City, Jamison balances uptown refinement with a dash of downtown boldness in luxe materials like leather and cashmere. Subtly unique detailing and clean lines result in citified sophistication. We have some new prized possessions in Jamison.

Jamison's always a reliable source of trend pieces and this summer our favorites are the Hendrix Crop Leather Jacket and the Dip Dye Sleeveless Top. We're definitely packing the ombre top for a getaway, and the cropped is the must-have jacket this season!

We first heard about Araks Yeramyan after finding out it was the Parsons grad's bra that Scarlett Johansson wore in Lost in Translation. Since working for Marc Jacobs, Araks has gained a cult following that counts Chloe Sevigny and Sofia Coppola as fans. The wireless Phoebe Bralett has us believing too because it's comfy enough to sleep in and is totally eco-friendly! The Phoebe Bralett is made from 100% organic cotton and comes in 5 colors so don't be afraid to let it peek. Show a little Phoebe!
We just wrapped up the "At Ease" lookbook to show how the right bra can really turn up the heat.
Spring Court was born on the tennis court in 1936. Georges Grimmeisen's revolutionary ventilation design was the original white tennis shoe. Today, Spring Court no longer passes as a serious court performer, but that hasn't stopped the French brand from becoming footwear royalty. John Lennon wore a pair of Spring Courts on his wedding day and on the cover of Abbey Road. The iconic design first envisioned 70 years ago has been preserved and lives on as the classic casual sneaker for anyone that appreciates how chic simplicity can be.

The latest up and coming collection from down under, Lover makes those romantic mix and match tops and dresses you Google hunt after seeing them on Abbie Cornish, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes and Michelle Williams in Vogue, Nylon, Rolling Stone, WWD, Harpers Bazaar, and Lula. Already a big hit in Australia, the storm of recent press is getting Lover some export attention.

Lover is an ehtereal collection that tells a story with "a narrative and central character" according to founders Susien Chong and Nic Briand. "We started the label based on what we loved and admired...our favorite heroes, muses, films and songs." In the May 2008 issue of Vogue (UK), Chong reveals that all the romance in her designs are inspired by her fascination with the "idea of lost innocence."

We're digging the feminine flounce of the easy to wear retro tops for summer, and the Natalia Blouse encompasses what Lover is all about. The cotton is textured and has a tonal pattern and the attached scarf is a great detail. This is much more than just another white blouse—the Natalia Blouse is Chong's story of innocence lost. We can see this being worn pretty or with some edge.

We're not sure why headphone makers think all audiophiles want their headphones looking like German sports cars, in shades of graphite or silver. WeSC breaks up the monotony and gives all of us iPod DJs the keys to the ear candy store with colorful buds and retro inspired over-the-ear headphones that will bump your playlists with impressive fidelity for the price. We've read on several audiophile sites that WeSC uses Sennheiser parts for their buds and headphones. That makes $35 for the buds and $61-$94 for the headphones a major steal!

We can’t choose our genes, but we certainly can choose our jeans! Genetic Denim makes that choice easy by offering jeans that celebrate each individual’s unique body type. This denim is tailored to fit, enhancing assets instead of simply conforming to mass trends. Made of supersoft lightweight denim, these jeans are exceedingly comfortable.
Creative Director Ali Fatourechi did his research by packing up denim samples and traveling across the country to discover what people really wanted in their jeans. After visiting 42 cities and studying reactions to different fits and styles, Fatourechi launched Genetic Denim in 2005. He started with core styles, the Recessive Gene (a slimmer cut) and the Dominant Gene (more relaxed). His collection has evolved to include a variety of contemporary cuts and washes, inspired by eras gone by that still maintain a modern sensibility.
Genetic Denim offers great everyday pairs that can be worn from day to night—a line that makes us proud to show off both our genes and our jeans.

If I was stuck on an island and I had to choose one brand to wear, it would be See by Chloe. When the line was first launched, it was love at first sight for me. I have always loved Chloe's couture collection, but the price points were not really within my spending budget (well, maybe someday. . .)! I was very excited about the diffusion line—not only are there better price points, but there is more of a selection and it's a playful, casual interpretation of the couture collection!
So, every season I always buy key special pieces. I really enjoy documenting each collection and seeing how the design evolves and develops. This season, the theme of the collection is African-inspired print work meets '70s girl.
For Spring '08, my must-haves are:

. . . and if I must indulge:

This buttery soft motorcycle crop jacket looks great with dresses—it's really to-die-for!

South African native Michael Cohen started Michael Stars with Suzanne Learner and then proposed to her. The couple has been designing "casual couture" for 21 years. If you're looking for basics with a twist, Michael Stars uses a signature "Shine" fabric and applies subtle design details to make everyday basics look and feel special. Our favorite piece is the Rib Lace Camisole Top because it's a perfect example showing that basics don't have to be boring. Just a touch of detailing like lace can make a plain, everyday piece memorable without sacrificing a drop of versatility.

Joe's Jeans spend more time on your hips than in your closet. You see Joe's Jeans everywhere now because they do a good job enhancing the assets. Premium denim in eight signature fits, Joe's Jeans flatter a range of real body types, not just skinny and skinnier. Designer Joe Dahan had more than just stick figures in mind with this collection. Whether you’re Tinkerbell petite or Highway One curvy, there's a pair of Joe's Jeans that will work for you.
InStyle Magazine picked Joe's Jeans "Best Overall Jeans" and Glamour awarded Joe's Jeans "Best Jeans for Petites."

More guys should do pink, especially for spring and summer. Pink looks great with almost every skin tone (except pink), and goes with every suit color, from pinstriped navy to khaki, grey or black. If you're in the market for a new dress shirt, think pink! Suits wake up and spring to life with pink shirts—they're more fun than white and add a ton of personality.

Stella McCartney fans, if you haven't picked up your new summer bag, get ready to pounce! Having just had her third child, Stella McCartney for LeSportsac is designed for people who have their hands full. Stella McCartney for LeSportsac is the must-have for anyone that has to carry lots of stuff with them around town.
The Stella McCartney for LeSportsac Every Day Tote Bag is a very stuff friendly carryall—sporty and spacious with easy-to-reach compartments and fast closures. We lovingly call it the "Every Day [Fill in the Blank] Bag" because it's useful in so many ways. Travel bag, commuter bag, school bag, art supply bag, knitting bag, beach bag, diaper bag, the Every Day Tote Bag also works as a laptop bag, with ample room for your 15" laptop (17" or more would be stretching it though).
On top of all that smart space, Stella McCartney for LeSportsac is also eco friendly, made from 100% recycled eco polyester! See Eco-Tobi for more earth friendly bags.

Psst, we carry intimates. For some reason, people haven't caught on to the fact that we have a pretty deep intimate apparel section. Sooooo, we're going to start exposing you to the under world! First up, Le Mystere's Tisha Bra.
Oprah officially picked the Le Mystere Tisha Bra as her favorite, and apparently the Tisha Bra gives you a shot at Brad Pitt—the March 2008 issue of OK Magazine spotted both Angie and Jen are wearing the Tisha Bra! The best part of the Tisha Bra is obviously the fit, but what'll surprise you most is how comfortable it is for an underwire bra. The underwire is hidden and you can't really feel it either. And, because it's seamless the Tisha Bra is the perfect T-shirt bra. The construction is solid too so expect to keep it a while.

Helen, co-founder of Chictopia I run a fashion destination website called Chictopia.com. It's a social network to connect style seekers to trendsetters. Describe your style. What I wear varies a lot depending on my mood, the occasion, and what's not in the laundry basket :-). I would say my style is mostly bohemian, with a hint of librarian chic when I dress up for work. Who do you consider a fashion icon? Audrey Hepburn. Where do you like to shop in the city? Density and Weston Wear on Valencia, Loehmann's on Sutter, Anthropologie.

Remember when Carrie from Sex and the City realized that she had spent $40,000 on shoes and couldn’t afford to buy her apartment? We’ve all been there on some level. And that’s why hot Los Angeles clothing line Young Fabulous and Broke is calling our name. Its sexy yet laid-back separates are inspired, in part, by the designer herself—Heidi Cornell once spent her rent on fabulous clothes to hit all of the Hollywood hot spots in style. Now she’s reaping the rewards of her comfy and stylish collection with a fashionable celebrity following, including Naomi Watts, Sienna Miller, and Angelina Jolie.

Former Quicksilver designer Jason Bleick definitely shows a surfer's sensibility in his new line, Ever. Bleick gives us exactly what we want when coming in from the waves. Ever is supercomfy and durable, perfect for lounging around and falling asleep on the couch. Ever's vintagey collection is laid back but the quality certainly isn't, featuring solid construction and some interesting details like board short inspired contrast stitching and paneling even on the simplest logo tees.
Every surfer needs a good hoodie, and Ever's are the best in the price range. The Artesia Hoodie is a cool lightweight shirt hoodie, and the reliable zip-up Ever Hoodie is a staple.

Cutting itchy and peekaboo tags off is never a good idea. For the 99.99% of us without photographic memory, the wash instructions are nice to have. Pull the tag and you might end up pulling a new sweater out of the dryer, two sizes smaller than when you bought it. And, good luck trying to resell your authentic Chloe dress without the original tag. The better solution is to take that tag and stick it with Hollywood Tag Tamers. Only $9 for a whole pack of 24 clear, adhesive-backed Hollywood Tag Tamers.
Cushiony, comfy, hypo-allergenic and fabric friendly, Hollywood Tag Tamers will never itch or irritate sensitive skin. Hollywood Tag Tamers come in two convenient, easy-to-use sizes, so put the scissors down!

Sneaker designers are finally getting it. Ladies deserve sneaker equality, in design and variety! Creative Recreation is the hottest sneaker brand right now, and we just picked up the must-haves for her. How does Creative Recreation's women's collection compare to the men's? The hottest men's styles have crossed over and can be had in women's too. In low and high-top, the Cesario and Dicoco are available, albeit with slightly different color options. What we're most excited about though is the women's exclusive styles: the wrestling-inspired Galow High-Tops and the sassy Miranda Slip Ons!

Our summer mantra has always been to build on basics. If you're planning a summer getaway you should be packing mostly basics. There aren't many occasions on vacation where you need more than a comfy cotton tee. I've overpacked dressy wovens so many times, only to find myself never changing out of the cozy V-neck tee I threw on in the morning. If you need to pick a few up, check out the L.A.-based designer that's made a career of perfecting the California chic staple tee, James Perse. His sueded cotton tees are supersoft and light with perfect fit.

Remember like 5 years ago, it seemed like all your friends were taking up knitting and crochet as a hobby? The beach, the bus, the salon, the lunchroom—there was always someone with a ball of yarn, hooks and needles. Well, the revival has gone from crafting it to wearing it! Intricate Victorian inspired lace and crochet details are adding some playful romance to summer's breezy frocks and accessories.
Our favorites? The mod Karta Lace Bow Back Dress is definitely something the knitting circle would appreciate. Lace overlay with bold beading at the neckline, Karta's done a sweet and playful update to the classic summer shift dress. If you need more of an everyday basic, the Michael Stars Rib Lace Camisole is something you should pack on every trip. Cabral wanted to let us know that their board shorts aren't just for show. They're designed and made for serious action. Cabral is great for poolside lounging, but even better active, either hitting the waves or hitting the weights. The lightweight, sueded microfiber is durable and quick drying. Every detail is designed for activity. Take an up-close look!

1. Triple stitching on front and back rises.
Durability, durability, durability.
2. Double stitching on side seams.
Will never split and leave you wearing mudflaps.
3. Tunneled elastic inserts front waistband relieve pressure on draw cord closure.
You'll really appreciate this feature after a big lunch, when cords can feel like piano wire.
4. Dual inner waistband twill tabs make hanging easy for drying.
Great for the gym too, such an underappreciated feature.
5. 1/4" spacing on double stitching.
No unravelling in the water.
6. Dye cut, Velcro fly reduces bunching when moving or seated.
A Velcro fly beats no fly at all.
7. Soft snap closure gives you a relaxed closure option for lounging.
We'll be using the snap closure early and often.
8. Custom diamond grommets on side cargo pockets.
Not sure how these equate to "active," but they look sweet!

Too many people make the mistake of believing sunscreen prevents you from getting the tan you want. Having just come back from Cabo wearing SPF 50 the whole time and still getting fried, we've verified that as a myth. There's a reason people don't use tanning oil anymore—it's totally unnecessary! Even on cloudy days, UV radiation still damages skin. The Skin Cancer Foundation suggests wearing SPF 15 or higher every day, but we suggest bumping that up to SPF 30 if you're Space Ghost pale or on vacation anywhere close to the equatorial sun (Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean). The sun is hotter and exposure is more direct in those parts so don't be lazy about covering up every inch of exposed skin. Never leave your room without sunscreen on! And, don't forget to reapply after swimming. Regardless of how waterproof the sunscreen claims to be, too much comes off even in a calm infinity pool.
If you really want to be nice to your skin, choose sunscreens with as many natural ingredients as possible. Alba Botanica's Aloe Vera SPF 15 Sunscreen, Korres' Watermelon SPF 30 and the SPF 30 Sunscreen from Malin and Goetz offer good protection and they're good for your skin too. More moisturizers are offered with SPF ratings too, like Korres Pomegranate Balancing Moisturizer SPF 6 and Evening Primrose Eye Cream, as well as this Billy Jealousy Combat Lines SPF 30. As always, don't forget about your face—lips and eyes!
