David Lim of Kasil

From the Designer: Interview with David Lim of Kasil jeans Tobi.com Interviews with David Lim of Kasil jeans
Where’s your favorite place to shop for clothes? And for denim?
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil Before I started Kasil, I used to shop at thrift stores and one-stop stores like American Rag. I’'m an easy shopper. I buy what I like and what looks good on me. Then, once I started Kasil, I started designing for me, so I rarely went shopping unless it was to see what's out there. Now, I go online to shop. It’'s easy and every time I get something in the mail it'’s like Christmas!
From the Designer Interview with Kasil: Aubrey Trouser Jeans in Baltic What’s the most you’ve spent on a single pair of jeans, and what were they?
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil You would think a jean designer would have spent a lot of money on jeans, but the truth is now that I can make my own jeans, I spend my money on jackets and shirts, they compliment my jeans the best.
If you had to choose just one wash, what would it be?
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil Dark, deep indigo with light abrasions. Simple and clean. It’s great for going out at night or day.
High-waisted and skinny are showing some longevity. What’s the next big denim trend?
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil Well, I think we’ve now covered almost every jean body type/trend out there, but the most lasting, timeless trend that will never go out of style is FIT, as long as the fit is there, people will continue to keep buying.
Describe your line in 3 words.
Sophisticated, timeless and classic.
How did you arrive at the name “Kasil”? David Lim of Kasil Jeans... my Korean name translated means big castle, forest.
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil It’s a play off of my name in Korean. Kind of sounds Native American but my Korean name translated means (get ready) “big castle (first name), forest (last name).”
Who is your hero? David Lim, Creative Director, Kasil jeans
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil Besides my parents, my cousin Paul who was my age and passed away from cancer. He taught me to be a good person and stand up for what I believed no matter what people thought. He was a huge support rock for me when I started Kasil and always believed in me.
Name one thing about the fashion industry you can’t stand.
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil Only one? Ok, I can’t stand people who dress head-to-toe in oversized brand logos. You know who I’m talking about. Where the name of the brand needs to be seen from a block away at night!
If you didn’t become a designer, what would you be?
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil Probably an architect, but that’s still a designer. I would probably be a restaurant owner. I love food!

We love Korean food. What’s your favorite Korean restaurant, and what should we order?
Q&A with David Lim, Kasil Haha! Who doesn’t like Korean food? My favorite is Dong Il Jang on Harvard and 8th. I’ve been going there with my parents since I was 4. They have the best roast gui and they make an incredible kimchi fried rice for you at the end of the meal.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
