Bamboo has been interpreted as a symbol of longevity in Chinese culture due to the plant’s long life, and myths of the human race originating from a bamboo stem are a part of many Asian cultures. The United Bamboo fashion collective embodies the spirit of its namesake plant, bringing new life to classic American sportswear with clothing that is sure to stand the test of time.
Launched in 1998 and based in New York, designers Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham aimed to make United Bamboo a line that would focus on the experimental without sacrificing wearability. Their avant-garde creations became accessible, starting out with New York’s hipsters and ultimately translating to fashion lovers around the world.
